The Tommie, at least on their block are a good football team. Without the scholarships they face disadvantages facilities, coaching and financial support have trouble covering. The Bison have nothing to prove. There are a lot of developing players that could see significant game time. This may help contain the score and spread.

Competitive virtual field lengths show St Thomas success against opponents is similar to NDSU. Looking at scoring they are just a half step behind. They could make a game of this.

THE OFFENSES:
Lack of a rushing game may expose the Thommies to disrupting Bison pass rush pressures limiting their ability to score.

THE DEFENSES:
St Thomas has a pretty good defense. If they have hope it’s in their ability to slow down the Bison offense. Do they have the athleticism and strength to go toe-to-roe, as they say, with the Thundering Herd. That’s what this game is all about.
The Tommies stood up pretty well at Idaho. We could see a similar type game. The Bison are explosive. They are playing solid, well coached physical football. The route factor, in favor of the Bison, looms large.
The 1915 team was, as mentioned in the write-up below, a hard luck bunch. Here is an account of the St Thomas game played in St Paul as reported in the 1917 AGASSIZ. The Agassiz was published from time to time and often yearly by the graduating class. They are interesting historical documents recording the history of social life, athletics, classes and clubs comprising NDSUs past.
I think it’s ok to call this ancient history, much like the Bison wins of 10 years ago or more. This game was played a number of years ago, different coaches, different players and different rules.
St Thomas 13 NDSU 0
The first real game of the season was with St. Thomas and the game was lost in the first minute of play thru hard luck. The Aggies outplayed the Irish all of the last half, and, but for injuries, we would no doubt have
at l e a s t t i e d t h e score. Our entire team played a good game, the work of "Mac"
a n d " C a t " looking extra good.

All day every play. Shades of the canceled Moorhead State series? Time to rest the starters.
Meantime The Racers are on the verge of their first win. They are pounding up the middle.
If they increase NDSU coaching salaries to FBS levels my guess is the program is not far behind. FBS sustainability will be demonstrated, not just promised. The big wins of the past and the more recent 0-2 record were all competitive games against some very good FBS competition. They were done over 20 years or so demonstrating sustainability and continuity at a high level. if they have the money and get a spot the future looks bright.
