Re: NDSU to PAC 12
2 days ago it was a rumor. Now it’s fact. NDSUs football future continues to be open to speculation and any FBS invite seems to be several years off.
When and if, I’m starting to see a north division of the MWC reuniting a few old chums from the Great West and Big Sky. Might even include Wyo. That’s when NDSU will probably opt-in. UNDs hand was forced by hockey, a sports commitment that might keep them out of the Norris Division of the MWC.

Re: NDSU to PAC 12
Are these schools FBS ready? Lots of FCS fans and some administrators think they are. the group looks a lot like another Conference USA. Does the FBS need more bottom feeders?
* Tarleton State -yes
* Montana - yes
* Montana State - yes
* Sacramento State - yes
* North Dakota State - yes
* South Dakota State - yes
* Idaho - maybe, they were there once
* UC Davis - yes
Some, maybe all of those schools might play FBS. Depends on the future growth of markets and commitment. In the meantime they represent the absolute “bottom-of-the-barrel” to the FBS and the cream of the FCS crop. For the foreseeable future NDSU is just fine.

Re: NDSU to PAC 12
bullshit. there's a whole crew of our people that promoted and marketed and advertised NDSU to the Nation.... Gene Taylor Craig Bohl even recognized it.

When NDSU moved to the FCS it looked like an FCS school in enrollment, athletic budget, attendance, stadium size etc.. It no longer fit the D2 mold
NDSU does not look like the average FBS school in enrollment, athletic budget, attendance, stadium size etc.. It looks a lot more like an FCS school.
That’s why the NCC 2 is not bulls*it.
If they move it should be with similar schools. Ie big sky, mvfc etc. or they risk being overwhelmed.
They may get an invite to the PAC 12 or MWC, who knows. You’re the expert with 15 years experience. Right now, as far as the FBS is concerned, NDSU represents the bottom of the barrel.
The NCC is dead. Long live The NCC.

Re: NDSU to PAC 12
I'm gonna disagree with that. They are consistently a mid level FBS quality team, and they do that with the disadvantage of fewer scholarships. They have outgrown the FCS and frankly ruin it for everyone else, year after year after year. Many inferior teams have recently made the move and are flourishing.

Re: NDSU to PAC 12
Im going to agree with that. NDSU has provided some exciting football and unbelievable upsets when punching up. Even in their last 2 losing efforts they gave the fans their monies worth. It’s a testament to how good NDSU football can be, not how big or self sustaining it is.
Budget is a big deal. Where does NDSU fit
Here is total attendance. For the MWC bottom teams. NDSU football might manage 100,000 or so. The other sports won’t help much. NDSU fits comfortably behind San Jose State(?)
9. Wyoming: 241,836 (down from 286,906 in 2023-24)
10. Air Force: 210,212 (up from 174,865 in 2023-24)
11. San Jose State: 184,426 (up from 164,447 in 2023-24)
Total MWC attendance: 3,752,893 (up from 3,651,137 in 2023-24)
Enrollment is an issue as well. NDSU has a couple thousand more than Wyos 10,500, the smallest in the MWC. NDSU is a powerful FCS school but not quite in the FBS mold yet.
The FCS could be more competitive . I’m not sure how NDSU is ruining the FCS. There are schools that can compete. It’s their responsibility to step up. If they don’t they are ruining the FCS.
