Has the Herd been exposed as a good FCS program in transition? Are they really ready?
Two, 4th down attempts was an FCS move. It’s a move that lacked respect for the strength of UNLV players & FBS too.
FCS players often tire, look at NDSUs 2025 4th QTR FCS scoring (107-56). The FBS has slowed that considerably (20-29). Against UNLV it appeared our players were tiring in the 4th, Air Force game too. Looking back the AZ & CO games saw the Herd tire too. A factor in both losses.
We had a lot of dropped balls & receivers that couldn’t get open. I thought I might be watching the early FCS game if the crowd hadn’t reminded me of where we were. Lucky everyone got out of there before the place flooded.
It’s a good start. Against FBS rosters Depth is going to be a greater challenge. Game plans have to be purged of FCS habits, Lots of growth in the Bison future. Lights are brighter, competition better and the excitement on game day back.

James Madison to the American, great move for them. It shows us all what’s possible once in. Expensive too. I heard

Looking closer:
- considering the below avg offenses, the NIU D is bad enough to lose the game on its own.
- New Mexico will probably look more like 40-16 indicated by the offensive potentials. The Warrior D is unlikely to slow the Lobos much.
- NDSU seems to have enough to win at the sold-out Fargo Dome.
- SJSU passing game should carry the day. UTEP may get their chance to cut loose a bit making for a fun game
- UNLV @ Air Force should be a battle. God bless the Cadets! The teams match up well. AF has been holding its own. UNLV on the rise. Home field might just be enough

Look at Bison expected vs actual game performance.
Upward sloping offense trend line is good. Expected performance is mostly based on season averages used in predicting scores. Green is the actual game statistic

Downward sloping defense trend line is good.
