Maybe they are expecting some break in the football classification?

Maybe recruiting?

More realizm for NDSU fans:
Per Shane Mettlen of the Harrisburg, Virginia-based Daily News-Record, officials from Ohio University have “expressed interest” in the Sun Belt Conference, with “preliminary” discussions taking place over the last few weeks following Texas State’s impending departure for the re-configured PAC-12 Conference.

The dominos fall until we arrive at the bottom. Is a spot opening up in the MAC?

Will the MAC crack under pressure and out of desperation make NDSU an offer? Are there better alternatives for them further east or are 10 members enough? Should NDSU even accept an offer for the previously scorned MAC?

The MAC isnt that far above NDSUs level. NDSU just hired an assistant from Kent State. As a member NDSU could probably reliably schedule OOC in the Sun Belt, MWC, Conference USA with maybe a big 12 or big 10 game now and again.

Summit/Mac?

Ohio University Football Spending is well ahead of NDSU and well behind the FBS median

Location is very important for NDSU. Rank of schools believed to be prospects for the MAC has NDSU unlikely because of location while other MVFC schools, no where near NDSUs prowess, are considered far more likely

https://www.hustlebelt.com/2025/1/17/24 ... nment-2026
Tier 1: Safe Additions
Programs listed in the first tier are all “check the boxes” types. Every program has FBS facilities or plan to build them, every program is a current or future FBS member, and every program is within the geographic footprint of the MAC.
This bunch is mostly back east schools including a former NDSU tomato can, Missouri State
Tier 2: Potential Additions
Programs in this tier are FCS programs which fit most of the benchmarks. Programs here are within the geographic footprint and have either indicated their willingness to play FBS football, been identified as a potential FBS member in the past or could be capable of doing so with available resources.
This bunch includes Austin Peay, Rhode Island and Illinois State Redbirds.
Tier 3: Unlikely Additions
Programs in this tier fall in multiple categories. Programs in this tier are all FCS members capable of making the jump to FBS fairly easily, but have extenuating circumstances which would potentially prevent adding them to the MAC.
This bunch features all 4 Dakota Schools

With the selection of NIU to join the MWC it should be clear by now that a scrub FCS school is not getting the call if everything is not absolutely perfect. Location for NDSU will never be perfect.

It’s starting to look like NDSUs FBS ambitions, if they have any, must be in some form of a new stand alone NCC2 or a new NCC2 division to an existing FBS conference. In the mean-time it’s FCS forever.

NDSU admin are fucking retarded or LAZY.

obviously Matt Larson and Todd Phelps dont give 2 FUCKS about the future of NDSU, they will be retired here in about 5 years and head back to shithole east coast.

NDSU admin should be ALL IN on talking to the PAC 12, Ask for an invite and smaller share, go ALL SPORTS

Built in Rivalry with Boise State, Colorado State as well as Matt Entz and Fresno ST and Wazzu and the bunny turd coach.

Use a PAC 12 invite as a reason to build a 45,000 semi enclosed ON CAMPUS stadium and NDSU keeps ALL REVENUE!

WHAT ARE WE WAITING FOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I certainly wouldn’t doubt the MWC didn’t know what NDSU was.

Clarity is important. Lakes has been correct:
  • The NDSU admin has done nothing, at least publicly. On the FBS initiative.
They may be lazy or uninspired but I don’t think so. They just can’t see a realistic path.

It’s become pretty clear that NDSU is at best an afterthought in any FBS, MWC, PAC 12 expansion talk.

When it comes to the FBS, in their eyes NDSU is Augi, All NDSU fans are Lakes and nobody cares the Bison beat Iowa.

NCC 2 or bust.

NDSU FBS CHECK LIST
  • classification. FAIL. FCS is the little leagues
  • Location. FAIL. Turns out location without classification is a no go
  • Finances. SHOW US THE MONEY. NDSU does not have an adequate FBS budget
  • Facilities. FAIL would barely be adequate. 10,000 seats short

I'm still not convinced that Dome capacity is an issue.
I'd much rather see 19,000 there wit 5,000 wishing they could get tickets than 24,000 there and 5,000 seats left open every week.
Games were more fun when we felt lucky to over pay for seats. Nothing special about when if it's easy to get tickets.
